How to crack IBM

Hi I am Bhamini, a CSE final year student. I recently got placed in International Business Machines (IBM) . Like any other computer science engineering student IBM was their in my top 10 dream company. IBM came to our college on November 10th. As soon as I came to know that IBM is coming for recruitment I started preparing like there is no tomorrow because IBM was the 13th company I am attending and the last company of 7th semester . I didn’t wanna carry forward my placement tension to 8th semester . The first thing I did before I started to prepare for IBM is to read the placement experience from http://www.indiabix.com/ . Trust me , Reading interview experience of others before your placements helps you a lot in many ways . After all the scratch work , I started off my preparation with number series because in almost every review I read the major part of the IBM aptitude was only number series or it was of time and work , age problems and other topics that are on indiabix . The day started off peacefully and I was quite excited and nervous about the IBM recruitment . I didn’t want my nervousness to haunt down my preparations so I kept my head chill by listening to some good music . We had our pre placement talk by 10am . They briefed us about our CTC , job description , recruitment process and job location .

ROUND 1 – APTITUDE

The main and important thing about IBM aptitude is that they have a 2 min 30 sec timer set for each question before which you have to solve out the problem and answer it . We had 18 questions and to my surprise i didn’t even have one number series question also .We were allowed to use calculator but I would suggest not to use the calculator and waste your time in that . I had mixture of questions from all the topics that were in indiabix/RS agarwal book . By 3 pm results were announced and I had got through it <3

ROUND 2 – COMMUNICATION ROUND

This round was purely based on your communication , confidence , vocabulary , accent and how well your carry yourself . We were asked general questions to check our communication skills . We were given on the spot results and I got through this round with much of ease .

ROUND 3 – TECHNICAL+HR ROUND

I attended the technical round first . The nightmare of my life :/ I was quite sure that they ll shoot questions from networks, data structures and database . I prepared myself for the maximum of technical questions from indiabix . I was also well prepared with my job description (Its must to know well about the designation you’re applying for) . As expected I got questions from the domain I prepared . I was asked basic application oriented technical questions and also I was asked to explain my job description ( I was recruited as technical operational analyst ) After the technical , I was immediately sent to take my HR interview . It was just a piece of cake walk . I was asked about IBM , My night life (the designation I got recruited for is a 24/7 process) , why IBM ( too mainstream right ? :P) and after a 25 min session my interview came to an end . What matters the most in HR round is how positive you’re and how enthusiastic you make the atmosphere . Its always a good choice to start off your interview by saying Happy morning / happy afternoon with a broad smile and a confident hand shake . Yes , I made it to my dream company finally <3 <3

TIPS FOR PLACEMENTS IN GENERAL

  • The way you dress up matters a lot . Always prefer pastel shades . Match your belt and shoe colour . Keep your accessory to minimal .
  • Keep your resume to medium level . Be sure of whatever you have put in resume . For a fresher questions will never be outside the resume .
  • In area of interest put 3 subjects . I choose Data structures , Database and Artificial Intelligence . I chose AI because you can be dead sure that your interviewer will not know AI in depth . So you can happily narrow down to 2 options :P
  • Make sure you dont starve and also be hydrated . Starvation does reflect your performance to great extend .
  • Never Discuss your performance with friends before the results .
  • Its always good to be at venue 30 mins in prior .
  • Always carry hard copy and soft copy of documents and recent passport size and also one original proof apart from your college ID .
All the best :*
