Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, was conceived as a 'Research Institute' or 'University of Research' by Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata in 1909. The major facilities are library with a huge collection of books, magazines and journals, an eServer IBM Blue Gene/L, two 16-processor P575 systems, gymkhana, healthcare assistance, hostel facilities for girls and boys etc. The major student clubs and associations are students’ council, looking around - students’ forum for interdisciplinary interactions, women's forum, IISc Amateur Astronomy club, IISc freethinkers group etc.
